Moth Hunting introduces a world of nature unknown to many. This learning adventure is fun, harmless and all can participate. People are surprised by the variety, colour and size of these "Beauties of the Night".The above is the Cercropia Moth stages.
Come learn from the best. At Grand River Rafting we are very fortunate to have two very knowledgeable moth/butterfly collectors. They own the largest private collection of insects in the valley. These local naturalist teach participants how to "sugar paint" to attract moths.
As the moths come, the naturalists help identify the rare from the common. They will also have mounted moth collections to show the variety of species found in the valley. The moths are released, but there are demonstrations on how to preserve and mount for insect collections. Also See our Butterfly & Insect Safari.

Screech owls are easy to call in. We have a portable speaker system with calls to attract the owls. The owls will actually dive bomb the speakers.
Calling coyotes is something that can actually be done using the human voice... learn this simple technique and try out your skill. A reply brings smiles to the participants.
We start the stakeout one hour before dusk. Participants need to bring insect repellant even though they can sit in net observation tents. Cost is determined by group size. The Night Safari fee is $15 per person plus tax... lower rates available for groups.

For those wishing to camp for the night... there are over 5 private wilderness tenting sites to choose from right on the river... plus one portable cabin rental. There are also accommodations with Bed & Breakfasts and Hotels nearby.
